Pilates, or Contrology as it was originally called, is an integrated method of fitness. It emerged around the middle of the 20th century and was a method of recovery and recuperation after an injury.

Pilates is a type of exercise that aims to work the deep muscles. It has strengthening exercises, exercises for the flexibility of our body and exercises with instruments (balls, tires) and always the exercises are done with the correct coordination of breathing. The 6 basic principles of Pilates are the following : correct use of breath, precision of movement, concentration, flow, control and centre. Pilates is suitable for all people, men women, of all ages. With Pilates we learn the following:

1) To have better posture.

2) Relieve us from our body aches and pains, more specifically back and neck pains, while aligning the spine (i.e. lordosis, scoliosis, kyphosis, etc.)

3) Have greater range of motion in joints, flexibility, strength and muscular endurance without adding bulk to the muscles.

4) We improve our balance.

5) It helps remove stress, emphasizing the proper use of breathing.

6) Prevents and rehabilitates injuries.

7) Provides well-being.

“Pilates is the complete coordination of body, mind and spirit.”
